Wolverhampton based tax specialist R&D Tax Claims Ltd has expanded with the addition of consultant Peter Roach. The company now employs four consultants.

R&D Tax Claims Ltd, based at Pendeford Business Park in the city, assists companies who invest in research and development (R&D) by helping them claim back extra tax relief on every pound the business spends in developing new products or introducing new and improved processes. Peter will specialise in helping R&D Tax Claims’ clients reclaim R&D corporation tax credits through the HMRC scheme.

Peter joins R&D Tax Claims from the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) West Midlands, where he spent eleven years as a Specialist Manufacturing Advisor. Prior to his work with MAS, Peter worked for a global high volume electronics company providing custom power products to companies across the world. His previous background was in the aerospace and defence environment.

Worcestershire based Peter also worked with a printing company involved in FDM (fused deposition modelling) printing and supply of materials. A trained engineer, Peter holds a BSc in Engineering from Kingston University and has further studied with University of Warwick and the Open University.

Peter Roach said –“Joining the team at R&D Tax Claims is a natural career progression for me. My entire professional life has centred on engineering and manufacturing and my time at MAS was involved in advising companies on innovation and change, new product development and knowledge management.

“When assessing whether a company is eligible for an R&D tax credit, it’s crucial to get a clear picture of how the business operates, the stages in development of its product and the success and failures of the outcomes so that we can present HMRC with a detailed, comprehensive document that readily and clearly demonstrates the existence of R&D within that company. My experience in the sector enables me to communicate with businesses and understand their operations within a short space of time, so that I can ascertain if R&D is being carried out. We can then progress their claim with HMRC.”

Mark Evans, managing director of R&D Tax Claims said – “It’s vital to have someone of Peter’s calibre on board and we welcome him to the team. All of our advisors have decades of experience in manufacturing and processes and so can identify the R&D element of any business quickly – this provides our clients with the comfort of knowing that they don’t have to spend their time on this process which, if approached incorrectly, can look like a minefield. We’ve claimed back over £10m in the last four years and are proud of our 100 per cent success rate in helping SMEs access this extremely beneficial tax break.”
